Motivational speakers are like Viagra. Only a very tiny minority of people needs them & hence likes them. There is a definite set of people that I know who hate self help books or theoretical speakers. They love stories, real life examples, fun & most importantly logically intriguing write ups & talks. I knew that such an audience will be in majority at the event at IIM Ahmedabad.
So! What did I do? I upfront threw acid & burnt the motivational speaker in me & decided to create a mad event titled ‘Lag Gayi’ – The Secret Science of ‘How we Screw our Lives’. You need to work for your target market!
Just spent a week (the only week of vacations that the time bankrupt me had in early 2015) in scribbling on a note book – all that I have observed all these years; among people of all ages i.e. ‘How they screw their lives unknowingly’ .
It was fun carefully going through almost all the emails & messages on my Social Media where in people were seeking my help about the issues in their life. I realized that the hidden & litany sound in all those emails & messages was ‘Lag Gayi’.
Be it a high school student, a topper at SRCC or a rank holder of an IIT / IAS exam or an IIM pass out or a senior manager at a Top MNC to the CEO of a Navratna – all whispered the words ‘Lag Gayi’ to me in their personal or written privy interactions with me. Having worked with the two farthest ends of the audience I realized majority junta does not want to be happy. They want to be MOVING. One persistent problem I observed was — the youth today is ending up majoring in minor aspects of life. Most of them are trying to become ‘what they do not want to be’. 90% junta is struggling with relationship & communication issues. Their ‘Imaginary Fears’ prevent joyfulness, abundance & value unlocking to fully happen for them.
Most people in the Corporates that I get to meet during my Events & Trainings – I find them Stressed, Depressed but still well dressed. Efficiency, Productivity & Sales usually plummet but HR issues, perceptions, chronic fatigue & boredom reigns large in offices (Even at the Ivy League names). People temptingly want to get laid here & there but they are getting screwed too in the process.
I wanted to create an Event which heads on takes up the erroneous & flawed assumptions on which we today are building our lives. I was clear. It does not have to be a ‘Good, gentlemanly inspiring talk’. It had to be a demolition process. Bang ! Blast !

‘Lag Gayi’ got a standing ovation
As I entered the auditorium of IIM-A ; I decided to just do one thing – ‘ just speak my heart out & (even if destructively) use wit & sarcasm to send the message across that ‘You can ace life more cleverly & beautifully’
& I did that. Just spoke whatever came to my mind.
Guess what! At the end of 2hrs – ‘Lag Gayi’ received the massive most response (a standing ovation) from the audience at IIM-Ahmedabad.

Monstrous response to ‘Lag Gayi’
Here are my 2 lessons about Public Speaking; that I learnt out of creating ‘Lag Gayi’ :-
- Spontaneity = Fearlessness. I realized that the more fearless I remain in calling a spade a spade; the sharper my spontaneity emerges. The analogies, the examples, the wicked facial gestures etc etc get applauded from audience only when they are spontaneous & not rehearsed.
- No one will want to even waste their onions & eggs on an ‘Only motivational speaker’. If you are interested in this field of Training & Inspiring lives- you’ll need to add your special genre to your ‘Talking’. It could be Drama, it could be poetry or it could be what I use – sarcasm & humour.

‘Lag Gayi’ gave me a beautifully naughty confidence which I will keep on savouring for many years to come. As I write this more & more confirmations from Top Corporates & Institutions keep pouring. They also want ‘Lag Gayi’.

An awesome evening spent at the IIM-A Campus
